Product Description

The TB-2 blade is hardened steel (Rockwell 54) and each blade is precision ground on both edges after the slot is punched out. The finish is satin chrome, which creates an extremely beautiful combination of materials, but you will never have to worry about it rusting or etching. Our unique friction locking mechanism employs two seated and knurled washers which bear against the blade when the knob is tightened. This insures two things: metal to metal contact and, because the washers are seated (knurling to the wood), they will not spin or dislodge assuring a tight blade-to-handle fit - like it should be. The knob does not wear against the rosewood, since it also seats against an inlaid brass washer. Our threaded tightening system uses a completely sealed nut so dirt and dust will never gum up the works. The brass knob has a female knurled pattern (looks, wears and works better in brass) with a perfectly fitted and finished rosewood infill.

In terms of tightening a T-Bevel, there are basically two styles of friction devices employed in these tools. Traditionally, a bolt was run through a slotted handle sandwiching the blade; you tighten the blade by turning a wing nut. The problem here is the wingnut can protrude into the plane of the handle which is supposed to rest flush against the work piece. This renders the tool virtually useless and is a major design flaw. In the mid 1800's, somebody invented the end screw tightening system, which locks the blade in place by driving a screw into a wedged pressure plate. We feel from an engineering standpoint the direct side pressure of a bolt assembly is superior. And because we use a round knob, with a circumference smaller than the handle width, there will never be side interference.
